Straightforward, calm, down-to-earth, and with a few rough edges—that's how we would describe Judith Beck and her wines, both of which are equally appealing. Judith is rather taciturn, yet she always says a lot—with her charisma and her wines. When she speaks, it is about the vineyard, her children, and perhaps her energetic husband Ulrich—she rarely talks about her own wines. But that's not necessary, because Judith's expressive wines speak for themselves if you give them enough attention and time.

Judith is open to new ideas and looks at the world with open eyes, while remaining true to herself and her origins. She comes from Gols, lives in the middle of the vineyards, and processes only grapes that grow around her hometown. Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, and Pinot Noir acquire a delicate lightness on the sandy, gravelly soils and, thanks to Judith's gentle processing, a juicy, accessible, and vibrant character. The wine is aged in used wooden barrels, ranging from large acacia barrels that have been in use for three generations to 500-liter barrels that are several years old, in order to promote clear fruitiness and freshness.
The white wine grape varieties have a little more trouble maintaining their freshness and liveliness in warm Gols. That's why Judith likes to work with skin contact here, and the wines are aged in used wooden barrels and left on the lees for as long as possible. With her Bambule! wines, she takes this approach to the extreme. These wines are designed to break the mold, causing, as she puts it, “riots and rampages” on the palate or perhaps even in the mind of the inexperienced wine drinker. The wines are produced with minimal intervention, have extended skin contact, and are bottled without filtration, fining, or the addition of sulfur. The clarity and charm that resonates in the Bambule! series makes them fantastic examples of balanced natural wines.
