Knoll - Am Stein

The Knolls have built a modern farm building overlooking Würzburg, right in the vineyard. The warm-hearted winemaking couple Sandra and Ludwig Knoll not only have an aesthetic flair for buildings and interior design, but also a knack for good wines. Silvaner naturally plays the leading role at the Weingut am Stein winery in Franconia, followed by Burgundy varieties, Riesling, and Scheurebe. The Guts-Silvaner is the entry-level wine, which pairs excellently with asparagus. This is followed by the local and single-vineyard wines and finally the GGs with more depth and minerality. Highly recommended year after year are the Silvaner Würzburg, which offers excellent value for money, and the slightly unusual, smoky VINZ line from the winery's oldest vines.

The Weingut am Stein winery now cultivates its vineyards entirely according to biodynamic guidelines. In the cellar, fermentation is largely spontaneous, and the top wines are now aged in concrete eggs in the newly built cellar. All these measures show that the Knoll family is constantly refining the quality of its wines and is not content to rest on its laurels. A visit to Franconia is worthwhile not only for the excellent wines but also for the impressive view over Würzburg. The adjoining Michelin-starred restaurant also provides a culinary finale after the wine tasting.
