Kollwentz

Kollwentz

The leading winery in Burgenland has been awarded five out of five stars by both Falstaff and Vinaria and is consistently ranked among Austria's top producers in all three categories: white wine, red wine, and sweet wine. Andi Kollwentz's wines also play in the top league internationally. They are characterized by consistently high quality and exceptional aging potential. And not only in great vintages, but also in small ones. The range is dominated by the red grape varieties Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, and Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Pinot Noir. Among the white varieties, Chardonnay plays the most important role, with the top vineyards Gloria and Tatschler producing some of Austria's best Chardonnays year after year. But the Steinmühle Sauvignon Blanc is also an excellent representative of its variety with wonderful flinty notes..

The winery became famous after it was taken over in 1966 by Anton Kollwentz Sr., a pioneer of Austrian quality winegrowing in many respects. First sweet wines, then dry white wines, Chardonnay in barriques, and finally red wines: first Zweigelt, then the Steinzeiler cuvée with international varieties. Everything Kollwentz Sr. did was successful at the highest level. In addition to their meticulous viticultural work, the Kollwentz family's success is also due to their vineyard holdings. The sites on the southern slope of the Leitha Mountains are among the oldest and best in Burgenland. All these factors give the wines of the Kollwentz estate a great structure and enormous aging potential. The Kollwentz winery in Großhüflein has received numerous awards. René Gabriel from Weinwisser declared Kollwentz the “best winemaker in the world” in 2005.
