The Franz Keller winery is a big name in Baden with a great reputation and huge vineyards. The quality has always been very good, but the wines were somewhat conservative and powerful, as the style was geared towards the mainstream for a long time. However, since Friedrich Keller Jr. joined the winery with the 2014 vintage, the style has changed radically. Not only has the quality taken another big leap forward. Friedrich aims for finesse, elegance, and freshness. Burgundy is the clear role model, but it is not to be copied, rather reinterpreted with Baden characteristics.

The grapes are harvested considerably earlier so that the acidity is preserved in the warm Kaiserstuhl region. Significantly more lees are used and the wine is stored on the full lees for as long as possible. Pinot Noir is Friedrich Keller's main focus, and with the new vintage, he has brought his own style to the bottle, from the basic wines to the GGs, with subtle reduction, a hint of wildness, great elegance, and a delicate structure. This Pinot Noir series is already setting standards in Germany – and Friedrich has only just begun!
