The BurkhardtSchür sparkling wine house was founded in 2012 by Laura Burkhardt and Sebastian Schür, but they didn't release their first sparkling wine until 2018 due to the particularly long yeast storage period. This makes it all the more impressive that the two have just been awarded the title of best sparkling wine collection of the year in the wine guide of champagne specialist Gerhard Eichelmann, which is a great start!

Sebastian's main job is as outdoor operations manager at the Rudolf Fürst winery in Bürgstadt, where he can naturally be found mainly in the vineyard. However, sparkling wine production is not a side business; rather, Sebastian's main job allows him to devote more time to sparkling wines: they are stored on the lees for up to 90 months and are only disgorged when the perfect moment has arrived. They are characterized by a full-bodied style and robust texture, paired with a charming creaminess and fine tannins. Since Laura and Sebastian do not own any vineyards themselves, they purchase their grapes from winegrowers who are friends of theirs. Some of the plots, which are specifically planted for sparkling wine production, are cultivated in close consultation with Sebastian. The Pinot Meunier comes from Tauberfranken, the Chardonnay from Kaiserstuhl, and the Pinot Noir from Bürgstadt. Only grape varieties approved for champagne are used, and all sparkling wine base wines are spontaneously fermented and aged in large neutral wooden barrels.
