The Van Volxem Winery has a long tradition along the Saar River and was considered one of the world’s finest wineries at the end of the 19th century. However, the winery subsequently disappeared from the scene entirely until Roman Niewodniczanski breathed new life into it in 1999, turning the historic estate into a rising star on Europe’s wine scene. With tireless dedication and incredible commitment, he pursues his vision of restoring the wines of the Saar and Moselle to their former glory. In the top vineyards of the Saar, the estate boasts vines up to 120 years old and immense potential—natural viticulture, spontaneous fermentation, and aging in Fuder (800-liter wooden barrels) are Roman’s methods of choice for crafting great wines. Van Volxem stands for a style characterized by clarity and elegance, with low alcohol content and pure drinking pleasure. The single-vineyard wines also offer an additional dimension of minerality, body, and complexity in the glass.
