Philippe Bornard

Philippe Bornard

When you meet the lively Philippe Bornard, you quickly realize what makes the winegrowers of the Jura tick. They make wine so that they can drink it with their friends over a simple, hearty meal. The fact that they are exceptionally good at making wine is not so important to them; the main thing is that the wine flows and everyone has a good time. Philippe is at home in Pupillin and learned to drink wine and developed a passion for winemaking from none other than Pierre Overnoy, for whom he worked after school and during the holidays.

Philippe bottled his first wines from the 2005 vintage, and it didn't take long for his extroverted personality to make him one of the region's most famous winemakers. The bottles with the orange fox quickly became some of the most sought-after wines in the Jura. Sparse and taut red wines made from Poulsard, Trousseau, and Pinot Noir are his passion, and when asked what he wants, he always says red wine! He also makes fine and quite elegant white wines from Chardonnay and Savagnin.

A few years ago, Philippe passed the winery on to his son Tony, and after a few years of working together during the transition, Tony has now taken over the winery completely. The energetic Philippe couldn't just sit around at home, of course, and has leased three small vineyards where he now cultivates Chardonnay, Savagnin, Trousseau, and Poulsard. We are delighted to be distributing the first vintage of his new project exclusively in Germany in 2020.
