Emmerich Knoll

Emmerich Knoll

The Knoll family has been growing grapes in the Wachau region since 1825. The wines ferment and mature mainly in large wooden barrels in the old vaulted cellar. Long before terroir was on everyone's lips, Emmerich Knoll Sr. was already elegantly conjuring it up in the bottle; he is a true master of his craft. The Knolls' vineyards, including the top Wachau sites Kreutles, Schütt, Loibenberg, Kellerberg, and Pfaffenberg (in Krems), are mainly planted with Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, but Chardonnay, Muskateller, and Traminer are also cultivated. Emmerich Knoll Jr. now runs the winery and, since 2012, Vinea Wachau as well. The distinctive labels feature St. Urban, painted by Siegfried Stoitzner.
