Wasenhaus

Wasenhaus

Alexander Götze and Christoph Wolber call their winery in Staufen in the Markgräflerland region Wasenhaus. It is an unusual project, as the two young men do not have their own vineyards, but instead bring with them years of experience at well-known wineries in Burgundy. After studying at the viticulture school in Beaune, Alexander joined the renowned Domaine de Montille in Volnay, where he even served as external operations manager for a time. Christoph earned his spurs at the famous Domaine Leflaive in Meursault and the Domaine Comte des Armand in Pommard, among others. Here in the Côte d'Or, the two were not only initiated into the secrets of Burgundy winemaking, but also developed the idea of making their own wines together.

The search for suitable plots and grape suppliers led the two to Christoph's home town of Staufen in southern Baden. In a laborious manual process, hand-selected Burgundy clones were grafted onto old rootstock vines on the Oelberg and Kirchberg in Ehrenhausen. With great sensitivity and passion, the two use modest means to tease out the finest and most special qualities from their vineyards and varieties. In 2016, they finally pressed their first wines, and we were so impressed during our first visit that we couldn't resist adding the wines to our range.
