Dr. Bürklin-Wolf is one of the most historic wineries and is once again among Germany’s absolute leading Riesling producers. This is reflected in both its Baroque-style labels and its classic winemaking style. The wines are characterized by a full-bodied, creamy texture, yet they are always smooth and elegant, with a striking, clear structure. The wines are structured into four quality levels based on the Burgundian model, a system that the VDP has since adopted: The estate wines form the foundation, followed by village wines, and finally the single-vineyard wines, which are vinified in the two categories P.C. (for Premier Cru, corresponding to the “Erste Lagen” in the VDP) and G.C. (for Grand Cru, corresponding to the “Große Gewächse”).

The Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Winery was founded as early as 1597 and achieved worldwide fame by the end of the 19th century. In the 20th century, however, its fame began to fade. It wasn’t until Bettina Bürklin von Guradze took over management of the winery in 1990 that the tide turned. Under the guidance of longtime cellar master Fritz Knorr, the entire wine portfolio was reorganized, and the winery once again rose to join the ranks of Germany’s winemaking elite. After his death in 2012, Nicola Libelli took the helm in the cellar. Working as part of a well-coordinated team with vineyard manager Jan Hock, he crafts Rieslings that rank among the best wines in Germany year after year. Bürklin-Wolf wines have remarkable aging potential and, as they age, develop greater complexity and mature, sometimes unusual aromas. We therefore recommend allowing the single-vineyard wines to age in the cellar for several years.
