Maupertuis

Maupertuis

Jean Maupertuis is actually the legendary winemaker of the Auvergne, yet he still flies under the radar. This is probably because most people aren’t even aware of this sleepy region. Jean apprenticed with none other than Marcel Lapierre and Pierre Overnoy, which explains why this newcomer to the industry produces such vibrant and complex wines.

The vineyards are located in Saint-Georges-sur-Allier and are planted primarily with Gamay and Pinot Noir. The region is characterized by volcanic and limestone soils, and the hot days are balanced by cool nights. This gives rise to Maupertuis’s delicate and refined wines, which possess great tension and a subtle wildness. For us, these are among the most moving wines produced from Gamay.
