The Fenocchio Winery is located in the heart of Barolo, within the Bussia vineyard, and is one of the region’s great classics. Today it is run by Claudio Fenocchio, who is now actively supported by his two daughters, Eleonora and Letizia. This lively and extremely friendly family deliberately adheres to very traditional methods. The Barolos remain on the lees for up to 50 days and are regularly punched down or topped up during this time. The Barolos are aged exclusively in large Slavonian oak barrels.

The Bussia vineyard, located southeast of Barolo and officially part of the municipality of Monforte d’Alba, is the estate’s most important vineyard. Its layout resembles an amphitheater; the calcareous soils, rich in clay, are robust and retain significantly more water than the sandy soils of the premier Cannubi vineyard north of Barolo, where the family also owns a vineyard. These vineyards in the heart of the Barolo region are particularly renowned for their expressiveness and balance. The wines combine power, elegance, and aromatic complexity, bringing together characteristics typically associated with individual municipalities on the region’s outskirts. While Bussia tends to produce the more powerful Barolos, Cannubi is known for its exceptional finesse and elegance.
Der Stil von Fenocchio ist klassisch und geradlinig. Die Barolos zeigen sich ziegelrot, mit heller, leicht süßlicher Beerenfrucht, sind fokussiert und kompakt, zugleich aber saftig und zugänglich. Neben Nebbiolo baut die Familie auch die autochthonen Sorten Barbera, Dolcetto und Arneis an. Barbera und Dolcetto wachsen auf kühleren, weniger nach Süden ausgerichteten Parzellen in den Hügeln der Langhe, während der Arneis aus dem etwas höher gelegenen Monteu Roero nördlich des Barolo-Gebiets stammt. Vinifiziert werden sie zu sortentypischen, charmanten und bewusst unkomplizierten Weinen zu fairen Preisen.
