The Ruster Ausbruch is cultivated with particular care at Feiler-Artinger and brought to aromatic opulence. On the western shore of Lake Neusiedl, on the gentle south-eastern slopes of the Ruster hills, there is not only ideal soil for the vines, but also a very special microclimate. In autumn, moisture rises from the lake and forms morning fog, which promotes the infection of ripe grapes with the noble rot Botrytis cinerea. When the wind then dries the grapes, they shrink to dry berries and their contents become concentrated.
About one-third of the area is planted with white grape varieties and two-thirds with red grape varieties, with a very high diversity of varieties, including almost all grape varieties commonly found in Austria. The numerous white wine varieties are blended into the Ruster Ausbruch alongside charming single-varietal wines. In addition to the Austrian classics Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt (as dry and semi-dry variants!), the red wine range includes a number of full-bodied cuvées, including the powerful, round Solitaire and the unusual “1000x,” which is dominated by Cabernet Franc and has already surprised us in blind tastings with its robust structure.
The family's actions and thinking are shaped by their great love for wine, nature, and vines. Biodynamic cultivation is therefore an almost logical consequence. The house credo: “Wines are works of art—they are a symbiosis of climate, soil, and winemaker!”
