Uwe Schiefer

Uwe Schiefer

Uwe Schiefer is a career changer and lateral thinker, self-taught, internationally acclaimed for his delicate Blaufränkisch wines, but not always understood by everyone. As a proponent of minimalist cellar techniques, he early on banished barriques from his wine cellar in favor of large wooden barrels. All wines are fermented spontaneously and bottled without the addition of enzymes, unfiltered and unadulterated, in keeping with his credo of “pure slate.” With his elegant Blaufränkisch style, Uwe Schiefer has revealed new facets of this variety and is partly responsible for the Blaufränkisch boom of recent years. Most of the vineyards are located on the picturesque Eisenberg, in sites such as Königsberg, Szapary, and Reihburg, as well as across the border in Hungary.
Large Blaufränkisch with refinement and elegance-almost Burgundian flair.

The clayey-loamy soils rich in iron ore are ideal for Blaufränkisch grapes and produce complex wines full of character. The most important variety by far is, of course, Blaufränkisch, but Uwe Schiefer also vinifies great wines from Merlot, Pinot Noir, and small quantities of Pinot Blanc, Welschriesling, and Grüner Veltliner. What all wines have in common is their characterful and demanding nature. If you give Uwe Schiefer's wines air and a little time, you will be rewarded with great complexity and exceptional finesse.
