With our newest winemaker, Morgane Turlier, we’re not only adding new, crisp, and refreshing Chardonnays and Savagnins to our selection, but also—finally—a healthy dose of girl power, which we’ve been missing from our Jura shelf until now. In any other region, Morgane would likely be labeled a “young wild one,” but in the Jura—a region heavily influenced by natural wine, where winemaking is a bit wilder to begin with—she isn’t branded that way. Still, with her unconventional, lively style, she’s certainly a trailblazer who’s shaping the spirit of the times.

Morgane, who is originally from southern France, does not come from a family of winemakers, nor did she have much to do with wine in any other way. Her motivation for moving to the Jura was her desire to work with horses someday, which is why she enrolled at Campus Montmorot, the only agricultural school in France that specializes in organic farming. An internship led Morgane to Etienne Thibaud and his Domaine des Carvarodes—it was here that working the vineyards with horses gave her the decisive inspiration to become a winemaker herself. For the past few years, she has been cultivating just under two hectares of vines in the communes of Marnoz, Cramans, and Buffard, northeast of Arbois. Morgane tends to these plots—some of which are tiny—planted with Chardonnay, Trousseau, and Savagnin, exclusively by hand and with the help of her horses. She vinifies the wines without added sulfur, in used 500-liter wooden barrels, imbuing them with her distinctive, substantial, yet ethereally light style.
