Camilla Scavino is our discovery from Grinzane Cavour, the still somewhat undiscovered and rural north-east of Barolo. She blew us away with her first vintage, the not-too-shabby 2021. Her elegant and delicate style characterises Nebbiolo with feminine elegance, clarity and purist structure. This starts with the light, berry-like and extremely accessible 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo, a dreamlike representative of the variety. We are already looking forward to the future vintages from this talented winemaker!

Camilla comes from a family of winegrowers who had a mixed agricultural business and mainly sold grapes to the cooperative. Nevertheless, it was clear that she wanted to become a winemaker, and after working in vineyards all over the world, she realised that she wanted to produce wine in Piedmont. With the excellent 2021 vintage, she started her own winery and was immediately able to access some of the family's top vineyards. Around the village of Grinzane Cavour, she cultivates high-altitude vineyards on heavy clay soil with a high lime content. The grapes from these vineyards are destined for her three Barolos, which she processes in the cellar using traditional methods.
All grapes are destemmed and fermented in steel tanks, with the Langhe Nebbiolo being pressed after just under three weeks, as soon as fermentation is complete. The Barolos remain on the skins for 30-60 days, and Camilla also carries out the very traditional practice of pressing the skins. The wine is aged traditionally in large Slavonian oak barrels, which she purchased new in 2021, giving the Barolos a slight hint of wood. However, this impression quickly dissipates with air and the finesse and delicacy become apparent with every swirl of the glass.
