Grand Seigneur and star winemaker FX Pichler (FX stands for Franz-Xaver) has handed over a small but famous winery in Oberloiben in the Wachau region to his son Lucas Pichler. The best steep terraced vineyards in Loiben (Loibnerberg) and Dürnstein (Kellerberg) were planted by his grandfather with very small-berried clones and are now the basis for the inimitable wines at the Pichler winery. Year after year, perfectionists FX and Lucas Pichler produce wines of great extract density and minerality, rich in nuance, complex in structure, and with long aging potential. Robert Parker praised the winery in his Wine Advocate back in 2002, placing it on a par with Château Latour in Bordeaux, Romanée-Conti in Burgundy, and Zind-Humbrecht in Alsace..

The Pichlers are now in their fifth generation of running the winery, and their passion for wine and commitment to quality runs in the family. Grüner Veltliner and Riesling are the winery's main varieties and form the basis for authentic Wachau wines of the highest quality. With its top wines M (Grüner Veltliner) and Unendlich (Riesling), FX Pichler has long since entered the Hall of Fame of the wine world. In 2009, the winemaking family treated themselves to a new cellar building befitting their reputation, with an impressive glass-walled tasting room overlooking all of the estate's vineyards.
