One of the oldest variety known, and grown in every wine region. Muscat blanc a petit grain, Muscat of Alexandria and Muscat Ottonel are all subvarieties of this grape with the typical intensive scent. Back in the days this grape was famous for its fortified sweet wines from south France and South Africa like the Muscadet and the Constantia. Grapey with intense muscat bouquet, flowery, light and fresh with fruity acidity. In Austria this variety was of no importance for a long time but by now the lively character of it makes it more popular especially as an aperitif and a fresh summer wine.
