Jancis Robinson ist begeistert von Herbert Zillingers Radikal und beschreibt den Wein ausgesprochen Enthusiastisch: From their oldest vineyards, picked late. Described by them as a 'top selection from the old Kalkvogel vines (pure sandstone and limestone) and completely sulfur-free in 2021'. Unfiltered and certified biodynamic.
Slightly cloudy, deep copper colour. Slightly funky and lots of fun! I can see why the Zillingers may not want to submit it to a conservative tasting panel but it is chock-full of flavour and character without being extreme, except for extremely delicious. It has a bit of that 'burnished metal' character I find on some Campanian whites. Really serious wine that almost deserves being served without the distraction of food. Very complex and long.

Medium yellow, peaches and pineapple roasted almonds and honey as well as mineral flavors, complex, yet still very young on the nose, very concentrated and rich in extract, full-bodied and potent but balanced with fresh acidity and extract, pineapple dried abricots and white peaches on the palate very opulent and powerful though pure and precise, excellent grip, very long spicy and mineral finish, and again great potential.

Der auf 500m Seehöhe liegende Hochsteinriegl ist eine der besten Sauvignon Blanc Lagen im Sausal, sehr steil mit reiner Südausrichtung und geprägt vom roten, kargen Schieferboden. Helles Grüngelb, in der Nase rieslingähnliche Steinobstanklänge, rauchig, gelbe Paprika, ein Hauch Johannisbeerkraut und Zitronenmelisse. Am Gaumen eine kühle und schlanke Textur, rassige Säure, zupackend, weiße Ribiseln mit einer Spur Limone, straffe dunkle Mineralik, etwas Salzigkeit im Nachhall. [GB Jg. 2015]
