Stuart Pigott schreibt über die Abtsberg Spätlese: "A great riesling Spatlese that makes it clear why this category has not disappeared in spite of the rise of dry German riesling. Concentrated peachy fruit is married to excellent structure and the balance of the touch of natural grape sweetness with wet stone minerality and crisp acidity is dazzling. Very long and vibrant finish. Drink or hold."

Matthias Knebels Spätlese aus dem Röttgen bringt schon gut Reife mit, in der Nase getrocknete Aprikosen, Blütenhonig, ein Hauch Kamille und Rosinen (man merkt hier auch schon die ein oder andere Botrytis-Traube), zarte Würze und leicht rauchig. Am Gaumen eine mundfüllende Textur, saftig-weich - ohne üppig zu sein, feine Extraktsüße bei mittlerer Säure, dazu ein Hauch Exotik, baut ganz langsam aber dann mächtig Druck auf, nicht die Säure tragt diese Spätlese sondern die Fruchtessenz.
